Farmers in Marathwada, India are perhaps the most deprived- three consecutive years of drought have forced a large number of farmers to go landless and into debts that cannot be repaid, due to chronic crop failures. With all odds against them, farmers see suicide as an way to rid them of this horrific struggle- 1024 farmers committed suicides in Marathwada in 2015.

We, at Dr Hedgewar Hospital, Aurangabad strive to bring attention to the cause of farmers' welfare, while doing our bit in ridding them of the burden of medical expenses.

Shivnath Kute migrated to Aurangabad to become a daily wage labourer few years ago. He owned a small land plot in Marathwada which didn't produce a good yield due to chronic droughts persistent in the region.

Today he earns Rs. 8 lakh as yield from his plot. This is ten times more than the meagre Rs. 80000 he used to earn earlier.

This was made possible by the Agricultural Extension Programme run by Dr Hedgewar Rugnalaya, which imparted knowledge of advanced farming techniques and soft loans to farmers like Shivnath.
